‘McDonald’s Diet’ brand ambassador dropped from schools: company

A McDonald's sign is shown outside one of their restaurants in EncinitasBy Lisa Baertlein LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The former Iowa science teacher and McDonald&;s Corp "brand ambassador," who preached the virtues of walking and near-daily french fries in presentations to youth, is no longer visiting U.S. schools, the fast-food chain said on Friday. The program presented by John Cisna, author of the book "My McDonald&039;s Diet: How I lost 37 pounds in 90 days and became a viral media sensation," was sharply criticized by teachers, parents and public health advocates who accused McDonald&039;s of trying to hook youngsters on unhealthy food. Cisna&039;s program included a documentary and discussion guide edited by McDonald&039;s, which hired him in 2015 and provides him with a stipend for time and travel related to his speaking engagements.

Swimming-No place for Park on South Korean team

By Nataly Pak SEOUL, May 11 (Reuters) – Former Olympic champion Park Tae-hwan was left off South Korea’s national swimming team on Wednesday due to a controversial Korean Olympic Committee regulation that tacked three years onto his 18-month doping ban imposed by world governing body FINA. Park completed the FINA ban in March after testing positive for testosterone ahead of the Incheon Asian Games in September 2014 but under KOC regulations he must wait three years from the end of his ban to be eligible for national selection again. Park, who won gold in the 400m freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Games to become the first Korean to win an Olympic swimming medal, won all four of his races and met Olympic qualification standards at recent national trials.
