In Thailand and Myanmar, petty drug users are being sentenced to long jail terms in prisons already bursting at the seams. The soaring popularity of methamphetamine – a cheap and highly addictive drug also known as meth – is driving countries across Asia to adopt hardline anti-narcotics policies.

Clinton: half of Trump supporters belong in ‘basket of deplorables’

Speaking at an evening fundraiser in New York, the former U.S. secretary of state said Trump had given voice to hateful rhetoric from such individuals through his behavior as a candidate for the White House. “To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables,'” Clinton said.

Johnson SEATTLE (Reuters) – The U.S. state of Washington has decided not to file criminal charges against the three police officers who fatally shot an undocumented Mexican farm worker in 2015 after he threw rocks at them and ran through a crowded intersection. The killing of Antonio Zambrano-Montes in the southeastern farming hub of Pasco, captured on video by witnesses and shared widely online, sparked days of protests from the city&;s majority Latino community and drew criticism from the Mexican government and human rights activists. Zambrano&039;s death was among a series of police shootings across the United States that have put law enforcement agencies under scrutiny over their use of force against minorities.

New research suggests exercise may offset the health risks of drinking.Heavy drinkers who exercise are less likely to die from alcohol-related diseases than those who don&;t, a study suggested Thursday, although its authors were cautious about the implications of their data. Researchers used British population data between 1994 and 2006, comparing health outcomes with self-reported alcohol intake and exercise levels of more than 36,000 people. Alcohol use categories ranged from "never drunk" to "harmful", while exercise included everything from light gardening or walking to vigorous sport.
