Soccer-Man City striker Bony confirms he had malaria

Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony, who has struggled for form and fitness since moving to the club in January, has confirmed he contracted malaria during the close season. Manager Manuel Pellegrini mentioned in a news conference this week that the striker had contracted malaria, though he now looks to be back to full fitness and scored twice in a 5-1 thrashing of Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday. Bony was quoted by British media as saying: “I got malaria from Africa when I was coming back but I am okay now.” The 26-year-old signed from Swansea City for about 30 million pounds ($46.32 million) at the start of the year.

Shire says FDA declines to approve eye drug Lifitegrast

A sign sits in front of Shire's manufacturing facility in Lexington, Massachusetts(Reuters) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration notified Shire Plc it will not approve its eye drug Lifitegrast, the company said on Friday, adding that the U.S. health regulator recommended the company conduct additional clinical studies. The news comes over a week before the FDA was supposed to make a decision on Lifitegrast on Oct 25. Shire said it received a complete response letter, which the FDA sends to let a drug developer know a marketing application will not be approved in its present form.

ABC News medical expert Jamie Zimmerman drowns in Hawaii

ABC News medical analyst Jamie Zimmerman, 31, drowned when she lost her footing and was swept out to sea while vacationing in Hawaii, ABC News President James Goldston said on Thursday. Zimmerman, a medical doctor, was alone and attempting to cross the Lumahai River on Kauai’s North Shore when she slipped, Goldston said in a memo to staff. Lifeguards on a Jet Ski found Zimmerman unresponsive in the water about 200 yards from the mouth of the river and, after bringing her on shore, attempted to revive her with CPR.
