Impax cuts 110 jobs, expects to save $15 million

(Reuters) – Impax Laboratories Inc said it cut about 110 jobs, or 10 percent of its workforce, mainly in its Hayward, California plant, more than four months after U.S. health regulators denied approval to the company’s Parkinson’s drug citing concerns about the manufacturing practices at the plant. The company said in early March that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had re-inspected the facility and made 12 observations, three of which had been raised previously. The FDA denied approval to Impax’s experimental Parkinson’s disease drug, Rytary, in January. …

Skipping shots at sick visits tied to vaccine delays

Brahimi says Syria conference possibly in July

GENEVA (Reuters) – A conference on ending the fighting in Syria may possibly be held in July, international envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said after preparatory talks with U.S. and Russian officials on Wednesday. He said the sole sticking point was that the two Syrian sides themselves were not yet ready to commit to the conference. He will chair a second round of preparatory talks on June 25. Brazil pulls ‘happy prostitute’ campaign after backlash

Cadila Health to market new diabetes drug in India

MUMBAI (Reuters) – Drugmaker Cadila Healthcare Ltd received regulatory approval to market a new diabetes drug in India that it developed and is aiming for more than $1 billion in sales globally, the company said on Wednesday. Cadila, India’s sixth-largest drugmaker by sales, spent $250 million developing Lipaglyn, a new chemical entity or new discovery, and aims to spend another $150 million to $200 million to launch the drug outside India, the company’s chairman, Pankaj Patel, said. …
