As a Finn I would like to add a comment concerning the possible reasons for the upsurge of diabetes instances from mid 1990s onwards.
When I was a child in early 1970s children had a tendency to spend most free time outside with friends by playing soccer, hockey etc.
1994 brought a big change in internet revolution. Kids were no longer intersted to stay outside. Instead free time was more and more spent in front of the PC. This reduced dramatically exposure to sun.

Statistical correlation and causality are two different things. The change in recommended dose and actual doseage would also vary. How many people actually supplement their children? the study showing significantly lower incidence of Type 1 Diabetes was based upon how many subjects and how were they vetted?
I’m not saying that he hasn’t made a point just that mega doses may not be the proper remedy rather than faithful consumption of the recommended doseage. This warrants further research!

Grassrootshealth D Action 25(OH)D test fee now $40 ~£27 Still the cheapest I know of.
Average UK adult has less than half the Vitamin D needed for Diabetes prevention it is safe to supplement for 3 months before testing to check you are taking sufficient. Either increase daily amount by 1000iu/d for each extra 10ng or stop supplementing if over 80ng 200nmol/l. 25(OH)D depreciates @ 17% a week so abstinence reduces 100ng to nearly 80ng in 7days.
Adverse events occur above 200ng 500nmol/l

Excellent discussion of clear evidence that Vitamin D deficiency underlies many diseases. There is a clear relationship between lack of sunlight, or Vitamin D, and the occurrence of autoimmune diseases, infections, cancer and calcium deficiency. Your goal in attempting to avoid these diseases is to maintain Vitamin D3 levels of 50-70 nanograms per milliliter. You can safely take 2000 to 4000 iu Vitamin D3, depending on weight and height. Check the results with a 25(OH)D test. Adjust up or down.
