ROME (Reuters) – A serial killer known as the “St. Valentine’s Beast” who went on the run after being allowed out of prison to visit his mother three days ago was captured in France on Friday, Italy’s interior minister said. Police launched a manhunt after Bartolomeo Gagliano fled jail on Tuesday after being granted a good behavior pass, hijacking the car of a baker and forcing the man to drive him to Genoa, 170 km (105 miles) from the border with France. Police cautioned that the fugitive was “armed and dangerous” and told the public to alert authorities if he was seen. …

Adults face a crush of conflicting health messages about aspirin and the role it plays as a preventive medicine. “Too many healthy people think that aspirin will prevent heart attacks and cancer,” said Dr. Peter Sandercock of the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Sandercock has extensive research experience in this subject, but was not involved in the current study.

CHICAGO (AP) — The detached dad, turning up his nose at diapering and too busy to bathe, dress and play with his kids, is mostly a myth, a big government survey suggests. Most American fathers say they are heavily involved in hands-on parenting, the researchers found.
