Rhoen-Klinikum CFO says was unaware of takeover bid

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Rhoen-Klinikum finance chief Erik Hamann said he had first learned of Fresenius SE’s takeover offer for Rhoen on Thursday morning. Germany’s Fresenius said earlier on Thursday it plans to take over Rhoen for 3.1 billion euros ($4.1 billion) with the backing of Rhoen’s founder, who controls 12.45 percent. He is eight months old and struggling to take each breath as his father offers up prayer after prayer over his heaving little body. Even with the oxygen tube going into his nose, Isiah’s lungs are not getting enough oxygen into his blood to sustain him. Fresenius SE bids 3.1 billion euros for Rhoen-Klinikum

Fresenius said on Thursday Rhoen-Klinikum’s founder and Chairman Eugen Muench, who controls 12.45 percent of the group’s shares, supports the transaction, but Rhoen said in a separate statement its management would first have to assess the offer before taking a view on its merits. India’s Strides buys U.S.-approved drug making plant

(Reuters) – Indian drugmaker Strides Arcolab said its unit acquired a U.S. compliant sterile drugs manufacturing plant for 1.25 billion rupees ($23.76 million), a move aimed at expediting commercialization of new products. The plant, acquired from Star Drugs and Research Labs, can make up to 97 million vials every year, it said. Shipments to the United States from the new plant will begin from the third quarter of 2012. …

Indonesia suspends some U.S. beef imports on mad cow

JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesia will suspend imports of some types of U.S. beef from Thursday because of a confirmed U.S. case of mad cow disease, Vice Agriculture Minister Rusman Heriawan told Reuters. Major buyers of U.S. beef have said they will continue with U.S. beef imports after a Californian dairy cow was found with the disease, so the partial ban from Indonesia will have little impact. Southeast Asia’s largest economy only accounted for 0.6 percent of U.S. beef exports worth about $17 million in 2011, according to U.S. government figures. …
